Professional life before academia

In addition to my academic life, I have worked in a number of other areas. As a Prodution Engineer, I worked in manufacturing in Brazil. I shifted fields, had a startup, a restaurant, and worked with consulting for SME’s and did this for over a decade both in Europe and in South America. The combination of these experiences informs my teaching and researching because it helped me to understand the centrality of the entrepreneur to economic and social development.

I was born and raised in Brazil, I graduated there with a BSc in Production engineering. I then moved to Italy for a MSc in Management Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano. I lived in Europe for five years, in the Northern city of Como (CO) and then moved back to Brazil. I spent the next 8 years in various parts of my homecountry, including the North, in the Amazon forest in the city of Santarém, in the deep South, in the city of Porto Alegre, and in the capital city of Brasília, where I worked for the federal government in an agency that supports entrepreneurs.

In 2020 I moved to the Oklahoma, in the US, where I came to pursue my PhD degree in Entrepreneurship at Oklahoma State University under the guidance of Dr. Per Bylund.

Beyond academia, since 2019 I have been part of Economics for Business, a project that aims at helping entrepreneurs and businesses in their journey to create value.

In 2021 I finally started a long-delayed project in which I talk to entrepreneurs that are located in the Brazilian Amazon. The project is in Portuguese, it is called “Negócios da Amazônia” (“Businesses of Amazon”), it is ongoing.

Finally, I follow topics such as economics, business and politics, and regularly comment on them for different media outlets, in Brazil, US and Europe.
